Battery technologies have several problems, including fire hazards associated with overheating, short-circuiting (dendrite penetration), non-conformal shapes, and expensive battery management systems. The cost, weight, energy density, safety and energy capacity of lithium ion batteries limit the progress of many technologies. Thus, there is a relentless pursuit of higher performing, lower weight, cost effective batteries for electric vehicles, smart phones and consumer electronics.
A Solution for Battery Limitations
Somnio Global has developed a technology capable of manufacturing high-capacity, conformal, solid state batteries on a low-cost, and scalable platform. We create the three battery components by depositing them so they are scalable through multi-layer stacking. Applications range from thin film microscopic energy storage to consumer electronics to automotive and off-grid battery uses.
The current global lithium ion battery market for light-duty consumer vehicles is valued at U.S. $3.5 billion. The portable battery market for smartphones, tablets and laptops is expected to reach U.S. $10.5 billion by 2020. The solid-state battery has higher performance levels, at lower costs than alternatives. Key performance characteristics include:
