Fresh Food Transportation
Thirty percent of the food produced globally is wasted, further complicated by the increasing global distribution of perishable food. The global annual volume of perishable food using reefers for transportation will reach 3 billion tons by 2020 and technological solutions are sought to better preserve produce within the value chain. Each year, global production of expanded polystyrene (EPS) exceeds 15 million tons, 90 percent of which goes to landfills. Waste EPS has little recycling potential so it has no redeemable value.
